What does renters insurance cover?

Covered:

Your stuff: Renters policies cover your clothes, electronics, furniture and other belongings in case of disaster or theft.

Additional living expenses: Hotel stays and restaurant meals may be covered if you're displaced from your home in a disaster.

Liability: If you're sued for injuries in your home or harm to other people's property, renters insurance may pay for damages and legal expenses.

Not covered:

Flooding: Most renters policies don't include flood insurance, but you can buy it separately.

Earthquakes: If you're in an earthquake zone, you'll need to buy additional coverage.

Infestations: Got bedbugs or mice? Most renters policies won't cover extermination.
